Xiaomi Redmi Buds 3 Pro (AirDots 3 Pro): what sound is that? And what ANC is this?

by Janes

With interesting sound quality, low price and unique design, the AirDots have become Xiaomi’s most successful TWS headphones globally. To take advantage of this expressive popularity, the company decided to announce the Redmi Buds 3 Pro, the global version of Redmi AirDots 3 Pro. In addition to the sophisticated design, the devices debuted with the main pillars of the line: attractive sound, good features and, of course, friendly price, costing only $ 60 (something around R $ 330, making the conversion).

Why is the price friendly? The Redmi Buds 3 Pro is an active noise cancelling (ANC) headset, brings Bluetooth 5.2, multipoint connection and 28 hours of battery with the case. To test sound performance, ANC, microphone and battery, I used Buds 3 Pro at home, at work and on the street, and share my experience in today’s review.

First of all, we need to explain the confusion of names that Xiaomi promotes in their products. After officializing the Redmi AirDots 3 earlier this year, the brand unveiled the Redmi AirDots 3 Pro for the Chinese market and a few months later they made the same phone official, but with the name Redmi Buds 3 Pro for the global market. Therefore, Buds 3 Pro and AirDots 3 Pro are the same handset and there are few more differences in the software part that we will explore throughout this review.

I start by talking about the design that, at least on the outside, quite resembles the conventional AirDots 3, while the internal area is bulky, but does not compromise comfort. The Buds 3 Pro has such a decent construction and a price so affordable that it is difficult to classify it as an input gadget, intermediate or top of the line.

But I can guarantee that this finish is premium phone. I really liked the whim of the company by including a brilliant detail in the touch region, at the same time the inner area gained a matte material reminiscent of rubber. It’s a visual language I’m used to seeing on expensive models such as the Sony WF-1000XM3 and the Jabra Elite 75t. I tested the darkened version which is actually dark gray and favors this sophisticated product feel. You still find it in white color, bringing the same bright look.

In terms of comfort, even though it’s burly, I was able to use it quietly during a walk, for long working hours and in other day-to-day tasks. They stand firm in the ear canal and fortunately you are free from pressures, making it a good option for those who practice physical exercises. Another highlight is the IPX4 certification, which ensures that the wearable is resistant to water and sweat, but not to dust.

The AirDots 3 Pro charging and carrying case is very different from the AirDots 3 and retains that exquisite wearable look. In fact, it is a very well-finished case, with rubberized aspect on the outside and shiny plastic on the inside. The accessory is small, compact and fits easily in the pants pocket; in the structure there is a USB-C power connection and a pairing button.
