Samsung has begun production of the OLED screens of the iPhone 15, the next generation of Apple’s smartphones. The South Korean manufacturer was the first of the suppliers to start manufacturing the displays. Among Apple’s suppliers, there are rumors that BOE’s share for the production of the iPhones Pro screens will be passed on to Samsung.
South Korean website The Elec, one of the main sources on Samsung, was first to disclose the start of production of the iPhone 15 screens by the company. Samsung is the world’s largest manufacturer of OLED panels and supplies the equipment to several electronics companies.
And for the next generation, the presence of Samsung’s OLED screens on iPhones is expected to increase.
Samsung should receive orders taken from BOE
Samsung may “win the contract” for the production of displays for BOE’s iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max. In March, it was reported that the Chinese manufacturer was having problems manufacturing the screens of the Pro models. BOE is failing to develop the panels with the cuts for Dynamic Island — the notchs of the iPhones that debuted in 2022 and “hold” the FaceID camera and sensor.
Ironically, one of the reasons for BOE’s difficulty in producing these screens is to create them without violating Samsung’s patent. And since the South Korean has nothing to do with the suffocations of the competitor, the better for her, who can improve her financial health (which continued to be bad in the second half) by providing the displays for all versions of the iPhone.
According to The Elec, LG and BOE, the other suppliers of the iPhone screens, have not yet received the final contract and the “green light” to start manufacturing the panels. With the problems in production, BOE will only supply the screens of the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus.
