Spotify’s Innovation: Music Videos
Now it is possible to imagine such thing as watching music videos on YouTube, for free and without having to subscribe. Ah, Luckily the major giant spotify has began to rollout the same feature for its premium users at $11.99/- monthly.
A deployment in progress
Spotify has begun to roll out the music videos feature in 85 new territories. This is still under testing at the moment, and no date of launch in France has been set so far. If you are in any of the 85 new territories, you will be able to locate this new feature in your app.
What benefits does this new feature have?
It is worth mentioning that Sound Video has appeared on Spotify earlier this time. Of course, it was first rolled out in March in 12 countries being the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy and others. The inclusion of the latest 85 new countries increases the total Markets Offering Music Video to ninety-seven.
With this rollout, there have been enhancement of this feature. According to Spotify’s release notes:
The aural experience of music aids in finding and detecting new music videos available for watching (on mobile and desktop) In-track video displays.
They can also search for the music video of one’s preference by clicking on the search option and clicking on the title or artist name.
What’s in it for Spotify?
The reason for this, is that users who find a music video, are 34% likely to come back to the same song next week with Spotify. Besides, “songs accessed through music videos are 24% more likely to be sung or playlists are recreated the following week by people who tuned in”.
Consequently, there are no doubts as to why this new feature is included in the Spotify app. But it is regrettable that it is available for subscribers who pay for premium services.
This is because anyone can watch a music video on YouTube, so it seems strange that this feature is only available to paying customers.
