20 years after the birth of Lollipop,Roberta Ruiu chooses to pay homage to the band that triumphed in Italy in 2001, through a medley of her most roaring successes, from “Batte Forte” to “Down Down Down”. A way to keep the light on the live music and, above all, on the theaters.
In a beautiful interview with Vanity Fair,Ruiu recalled the band, its former colleagues and those carefree years that are so lacking to those who lived them: “I think it is linked to the nostalgia of a very important period for many, the birth of a girl band that gave me so much and, in some ways, also saved me. I was 18 years old, I was still small but with a very open mind, always very close to a gay audience that always looked for me writing me hundreds of letters that I still keep, guys who were facing the first inconveniences and who chose to confide in me and no one else. Sometimes they would leave their phone number written, I remember having called quite a few – of course we are talking about the home phone, not the mobile phone.

Success: “We may not have been Destiny’s Child, but we still collected gold and platinum records, made songs that are sung and played even today: those goals the group has and no one can ever take them away from them”.

The end of the band and solo career: “In a confused way. I became a journalist publicist, I started doing the first jobs for the first channels of Sky, I never stood still. I sense the possibilities, but in every group, when dealing with different personalities, it is always difficult to move forward without compromise. In hindsight I would have liked to be heard more, the one yes: all these years I have never talked about them. The only time I got it was with a tweet a few years ago, when I saw the girls guest on tv.”

The reunion in 2013: “At one point I felt the need to bring them back together: I took care of everything and we organized a show at the Magazzini Generali that sold out. It is an evening that I still carry in my heart and that filled me with pride, but I knew that it should end there: beautiful things must remain at their maximum, in my opinion»
