Meta enhances the Ray-Ban smart glasses
Social media giant Meta has now issued a new version for smart glasses for their customers based on the territories of the United States and Canada. Chief of Technical Director Andrew Bosworth pointed out that it will consist of an updated natural voice recognition to fine tune the commands that the users can give to the inbuilt Artificial intelligent moderator.

Among the new features include “voicemail, timers, and reminders.” Users will also be able to use the glasses to tell Meta’s AI to dial a phone number or scan a QR code. Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of facebook, showed how the new reminder features could work by posting a simple clip in Instagram showing how to look for a car in a parking space.
Part of this update that is striking by its absence is live translation, something Bosworth has not indicated would be added in the future.
The use of smart glasses has been the center of debate
Meta’s smart glasses have also been all over the headlines for a different reason too. Two students of Harvard University utilized these glasses to caputor private data from unknown people. Together with facial recognition as well as and natural language processing model they were able to recognize addresses, phone numbers, some information about family members, and even partial of the Social Security numbers.
Such experiences bring up a number of questions to the security of users and their personal data in wearable technology, which seems to be increasingly becoming a part of people’s lives.
